The Serbian government had secret alliances that were connected to the assassination of Franz Ferdinand which caused tension between Austria-Hungary and Serbia. The tension between both countries became, even more, when Serbia had secret allies which made both countries to go to war. Bigger alliances were formed as well such as the Triple Entente and the Triple Alliance. The Triple Entente started off as the Franco Russian alliance between France and Russia in and later developed in including Great Britain in this alliance.

The end result would be a new triple monarchy Austria, Hungary, Serbia instead of the dual monarchy Austria, Hungary. These two treaties were designed to prevent war, and they did for fifty years, but it was all under tension, and the right amount of pressure caused the entire thing to come crashing down.
